The wet and dry seasons are clearly defined on Union Island, the dry season being the first month of the year. Union Island is a dry island with a typically dry vegetative aspect. Tapping and storing rainwater is how the island solves any water problem. Nature is shaped in the island by water, and even the plants and animals are affected. Rain in February or in March, though important, does not change the aspect of the island. On the other hand, rain though light, towards the end of May induces a green growth in a few days. It is the rainfall of Union Island, a limiting factor if any, which had marked its history. As early as the month of June, Union Island wakes up from a five month sleep where insects, reptiles, birds, etc. appear for a new cycle and new life begins again.
