Union Island nightlife - dance, drink, have fun!
There are many things to do in Union Island. Have a great meal in a restaurant, climb a mountain, hike a nature trail or swim at the beach. Don't forget to try one of the local rum concoctions! Unionites are a friendly bunch and will make you feel welcome. Enjoy a rum punch in one of the many local bars. Listen to steel pan bands playing authentic West Indian music. Lambi's is a favourite for good drinks and authentic local fare. And don't pass Twilight Bar opposite the main dock where the atmosphere is friendly, the drinks are reasonably priced and Bert plays his guitar and sings his large repertoire of songs, old and new. Happy Island, run by Janti in Clifton Harbour is a favourite place to chill out with a drink and watch the sun set. Of course, you can always purchase some live lobster from a fishing boat at Clifton Harbour and carry them back to your yacht for a feast in your own, private, environment! Lobster trapping is seasonal, so don't be disappointed when you cannot buy them between May and September. Hanging out in Clifton is a must in Union Island especially when the mail boat comes in. Clifton is the town and it is always lively with tourists, colorful buildings and daily traders. There are many to do, see and buy and for the single you can definitely mingle. The majority of Unionites lives in Ashton. Ashton is very tropical, cultural and has a rich and natural vegetation. Ashton still maintains that caribbean feeling that should not be missed. Some of the best views and long sandy beaches are in Ashton. Good roads are evident which takes you to some of the most friendly people and beautiful sloping hills. Always take a house seeing trip in Ashton. In Union Island "Spranging" means "liming" (hanging out) but with lots of fun. It usually takes place when two or more persons get together before or during an event enjoying themselves to the fullest. During the Easterval Festivities, there's a lot of "Spranging" and "Sprangers" ( the people who are Spranging ) are visible far and near.
