Union Island tours - you’ll never be bored
Union Island has a wonderful series of hiking trails. They have been developed by the Union Island Ecotourism Movement. While hiking the trails you will see many examples of flora native to the island, as well as several historic artifacts. Van or Bus Tours - take a guided tour by van around the island. Union Island is small, but we have some beautiful scenery to see and lovely beaches to visit. Or rent you a mountain bicycle. It's the ideal way to explore this small island. Hills and Valley: This is particularly appealing to those interested in horticulture, biology, entomology, ornithology, and native flora and fauna. The tour will venture off the beaten track including up and down mountains, into the forests and bushes. Pay attention to ancient Amerindian dilapidated ruins and dwelling. Coconut picking is a must and so the taste of one of the island many luscious wild fruits. It was among these hills a new lizard was found. It was believed to belong to the Genus Gonatodes. (Look at the news section on this site for more info under “Island Lizard found”). The Salt Pond is about 10 minutes away from the main capital Clifton. It is located close to the Big Sand Hotel and beach. In the rainy season the pond is usually filled with water which provides sources of nutrients for many birds. As a result it is consider one of the best place on the island for bird watching. Basket Pond: An historic pond site from our earliest inhabitants who settle there. It is easily access and provides excellent picture taking and good picnicking. Fort Hill, built sometime in the 17th century and located in the northeast of the island. It is 450-feet high and has a panoramic view stretching from St. Vincent in the north to Grenada in the south. The Pinnacle is the highest mountain peak on the island at 995-feet and affords spectacular views. You have to be pretty fit with a head for heights to do this. There are plenty of less strenuous hikes such as over to Chatham Bay and through to Campbell the historical Basket Pond.
